Dr. Nicholas J. Saba is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon at Connecticut Retina Consultants, where he provides specialized care across Hamden, New Haven, and Madison. Dedicated to compassionate, patient-centered care, he develops individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr. Nicholas J. Saba is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon at Connecticut Retina Consultants, where he provides care at locations in Hamden, New Haven, and Madison, Connecticut. He also performs vitreoretinal surgery at ambulatory surgical facilities in Hamden and Guilford, Connecticut.

Originally from Hamden, Connecticut, Dr. Saba graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, with a degree in Biochemistry. He subsequently worked at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he conducted laboratory research investigating the mechanisms underlying abnormal blood vessel growth and retinal diseases.

Dr. Saba earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. During residency, he was selected as Chief Resident and received the E. Clifford Lazzaro, MD Award for Excellence in Teaching. He then completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at The Ohio State University, where he also served as a clinical instructor for ophthalmology residents.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Saba is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has authored numerous scientific publications stemming from his clinical and laboratory research on retinal diseases.

Dr. Saba is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and developing individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the Connecticut coastline, running, and traveling.
